Foriegn Exchange Reserves (FX Reserves)

Hi Guys,

   These are the assets which is held by banks and monetary authorities,usually in different reserve currencies, mostly the US Dollar and to lesser extent the euro, the UN Pound Sterling and the Japanese yen.
Foriegn Exchange reserves are also called Reserve Assets in the Balance of Payments and are located under the financial account. They are an important part of IIP ( International Investment Poasition) of the country.
In terms of financial assets classifications, they are classified as Gold bullion, Unallocated gold accounts, interbank position, loans, equity and options.Usually, when the monetary authority of a country has some kind of liability, this will be included in other categories such as Others Investments.
